CRB Anim

Common operational modes

Common operational modes
Members of CRB-Anim have started to exchange their current procedures for identification and documentation of samples. The goal is to ensure throughout the lifetime of a sample, access to the following traceability data: animal, tissue, date and place of collection, name of the person in charge of the collection, protocol/experiment that led to the sampling, quality control, storage location, and connexion to internal information available for the sample (genotypes, genealogy).

All BRC members of CRB-Anim will claim certification to NF S96-900 standard by year 4 of the project. Implementation costs of the management quality system will be shared between partners. BRC activities are best described by the process analysis of a quality insurance system shown in Figure 4. Nowadays the members of CRB-Anim are not using the same tools to identify and trace their samples. For instance, the GADIE BRC is using an in-house system, Barcode, developed by the genomic platform PlaGe at INRA Toulouse, to manage samples and their physical location in the freezers, whereas the national cryobank has developed its own database with a web interface, to provide information on the collections but not to monitor storage data which are handled by local storage sites. Cani-DNA has its own database (relational database MySQL). LABOGENA is also updating its informatics network, including a process of automatic providers’ authorisation for each request. This new network needs to be linked to other DNA banks and research users.
